Top honors for JCC's top scorer
Her coach called her a natural. And the rest of Jefferson County Conference can find no reason to dispute that. Carrie Stone, the leading scorer in the JCC for the second time in three seasons, was selected as the JCC most valuable player. The St. Pius X junior striker scored 27 goals, good for seventh in the metro area this spring. She led the Lancers to an upset win against top-seeded De Soto in the Class 1 district championship.Stone was one of six unanimous selections on the all-JCC first team. The others were Morgan Milfeld and Candice Evans of De Soto, Kendra Schilli and Ava Johnson of Perryville and Courtney Besand of St. Vincent. Except for Johnson all of the unanimous selections were forwards or midfielders. JCC champ De Soto had a league-best four players on the first team. In addition to Milfeld, and Evans the Dragons placed forward Alanna Ott and defender Maddie Smith on the first team. The rest of the first team: forwards Megham O'Sullivan of Windsor and Jessica Welker of St. Vincent, defender Brooke Burke of St. Vincent and goalie Anne Steele of St. Vincent. Perryville's Stacie Sargent was voted the coach of the year. Sargent's team pulled off two upsets to win a district title and beat St. Pius in the state tournament sectional round of play. |
