A man who terrorized a Dittmer family last year will serve 15 years in prison.

Lonney D. Horton, 41, Dittmer, pleaded guilty July 7 to one count of first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of burglary and three counts of kidnapping.

On July 10, Horton was sentenced by Jefferson County Circuit Judge Gary Kramer to 15-years on each count, to be served concurrently.According to court records, around 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 17 Horton entered the Parker family home in the 7000 block of Blue Ridge Road and, showing a handgun to Rebecca Parker, demanded the keys to the family's minivan.

Horton then removed zip ties from a black bag he brought with him and tied up Parker, 30, and her two children, ages 7 and 11, before fleeing in the family's 1999 black Ford Windstar.

One of the children was able to grab a pair of scissors to get free and then freed the rest of the family. No family member was hurt in the incident.

Police said Horton appeared to be waiting close by for Parker's husband to leave for work before he entered the home.

Horton's family, who live in the 8000 block of Ridge Drive, Dittmer, had reported Horton missing and suicidal earlier and gave a description of him to police, who spotted him and arrested him after a short foot chase, during which Horton had flashed a handgun at them.
