FOX C-6: Varsity does a Tom Sawyer
While the junior varsity team took time out Friday morning to work around the school, the varsity team headed to Arnold City Park to assist the Parks and Recreation Department with clean up after this season's flooding. The team divided in two, with half of the boys staining fences and half scattered throughout the park picking up trash and debris.Coach Nick Gianino expressed pride in the team's effort. "These are all good kids," he said. "They're doing a good job." Friday's effort was the team's first large community project. After a big storm last year, the team cleaned up debris and fallen tree limbs around campus, but Gianino hopes the park clean up will be the first of many projects the team has the opportunity to enjoy. "We want to get the football team more involved with the community and get the community more involved with the football team," Gianino said. The boys said they were glad to lend a hand, appreciative of all the park has to offer. "I come to this park a lot-like every other day," said Mark Parson, 17, a senior, as he stained the fence. The team begins its two-a-day full practice schedule Monday. |
