Festus property owners will see no change in their annual real estate tax bills after the City Council voted to keep the city's rate equal to last year's.

Festus residents now pay 45 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

That rate generates about $640,000 annually for the city coffers, with 15 cents earmarked for general revenue, 11 cents for both the park and library funds and eight cents dedicated to the city health fund.In other action, the council voted to enter into a contract with Jokerst Paving for $450,000 in street repairs.

Lee Avenue and Walnut Street will see the bulk of the repair work, according to Steve Stoll, city administrator.

"Both streets need infrastructure work, such as sidewalks and water lines, and there will be a variety of other streets that will be resurfaced," Stoll said.

The repairs are part of an annual effort by city officials to identify and repair trouble spots on city roads.

"We've paved some alleys that hadn't been done in years," Stoll said. "We're going to try and get all of these roads in pretty good shape."
